Brokered Deposit Platforms

Marketplaces and services through which banks obtain deposits placed or facilitated by another party.

Buying context

Why it matters

Brokered funding can be operationally efficient but may behave differently from direct relationships. Terms, concentrations, renewal behavior, reporting treatment, and contingency access should fit the bank's funding plan.

Due diligence

Questions to ask

  1. Who owns the depositor relationship and what information will the bank receive about beneficial owners?
  2. How are rates, fees, maturities, early withdrawals, renewals, and settlement failures handled?
  3. What concentration and rollover reporting is available by source, program, maturity, and counterparty?
  4. How quickly could the bank replace or unwind the funding if access to the platform stopped?
